Cooperation of the Republic of Belarus with the Republic of Mozambique

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Mozambique were established on February 29, 2000. The Ambassador of Belarus to South Africa is accredited in Mozambique as non-resident.

The legal base of cooperation between Belarus and Mozambique is is in the formation stage. The sides signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the Foreign Ministries (April 2014), the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Agriculture of the two countries (June 2014). In June 2014, the Program of Joint Actions prepared by the Belarusian side for strengthening relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Mozambique was sent to the Mozambican side for consideration.

The trade relations of the Republic of Belarus with the Republic of Mozambique have the following dynamics:

The basis of Belarusian exports is traditionally made up of potash fertilizers. There is an experience in supplying tractors, trucks, semi-trailers, road-building machinery, and other industrial products to Mozambique. In 2017, for the first time, Belarusian construction materials began to be supplied. Mozambique supplies small quantities of tobacco’s raw materials, fruits and nuts to Belarus.

Visits at the level of the Heads of State were not carried out. In May 2013 Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus V.B. Rybakov visited the city of Maputo, during this visit were held meetings with the Prime Minister of Mozambique A.Vakina, the leadership of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Industry, Agriculture, and also representatives of the Mozambican business community.

In 2014 Prime Minister of the Republic of Mozambique А.Vaquina, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique O.Baloi, Minister of Agriculture J.Pacheco  paid an official visits to the Republic of Belarus.

In June 2015 the first political consultations between the foreign ministries of Belarus and Mozambique took place in the city of Maputo at the level of deputy ministers.

On May 23, 2016 the first meeting of the Joint Belarussian-Mozambican Commission on Cooperation was held in Minsk, which was established on the basis of the General Agreement on Cooperation, signed during the visit of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Mozambique to Belarus in 2014. As a result, the protocol of the first meeting of the commission was signed.

In October 2017, the Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus I.A. Shunevich visited Mozambique.
