Cooperation of the Republic of Belarus with the Republic of Zimbabwe

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Zimbabwe were established on April 16, 1992. The Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus in South Africa is accredited in Zimbabwe as non-resident.

The legal base of cooperation between Belarus and Zimbabwe is in the formation stage. The Zimbabwean side is considering the drafts of international agreements on the establishment of a joint commission for cooperation, on promoting the implementation and mutual protection of investments, on cooperation in the field of agriculture, on cooperation in science and technology and innovation, on mutual legal assistance in civil matters, on criminal cases, as well as extradition.

The trade relations of the Republic of Belarus with the Republic of Zimbabwe have the following dynamics:

In 2017 Belarusian exports to Zimbabwe and bilateral trade generally jumped to a new record level due to a new large supply of quarry equipment (as in 2014). The basis of Belarusian exports is traditionally made up of potash fertilizers, vehicles, printed products. Zimbabwe delivers to Belarus tobacco’s raw materials, as well as small amounts of vegetables and fruits.

Visits at the highest level were not carried out.

In 2011 the visit to the Republic of Belarus was made by Vice-President J.Nkomo, a meeting with President A.Lukashenko took place. In December 2014 Minister of Environment of Zimbabwe S.Kasukuwere visited Belarus. In 2015 bilateral contacts were significantly intensified: visits to Belarus were made by President of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe J.Mangudya and Vice-President of Zimbabwe E.Mnangagwa, meetings were held with the President and Prime Minister of Belarus. In turn, visits to Zimbabwe were made by the leadership of the OJSC “Development Bank of the Republic of Belarus”, JSC “BelAZ” and “Triple” Ltd.
