Humanitarian assistance to the Republic of Mozambique

On April 18, an aircraft with humanitarian aid from the Republic of Belarus landed at the airport of Maputo, the capital of the Republic of Mozambique.



The delegation of the Republic of Belarus, led by First Deputy Minister for Emergency Situations H.E. Maj.Gen.Alexander Khudoleev was met by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique and by the National Institute of Disaster Management, within which there was a solemn ceremony of handing over humanitarian assistance.



H.E. Mr.Alexander Sidoruk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Mozambique, took part in the solemn ceremony of handing the cargo over to the Mozambican side and subsequent events.



During the official ceremony, H.E. Mr. Albano Macie, Deputy Minister of State Administration and Civil Service of the Republic of Mozambique, noted that the assistance, provided by the Republic of Belarus, is very important for the citizens of Mozambique, who have unwittingly suffered from the past cyclone, and stressed how timely it was provided.



In a special way the Mozambican politician thanked the Republic of Belarus for caring for Mozambican children, who were provided with baby food, clothes, school uniforms, shoes, underwear, and stationery.


The head of the Belarusian delegation Maj.Gen.A.Hudoleev added that the humanitarian cargo consists of the essentials: food, sugar, flour, clothes and shoes for adults and children, tableware, blankets, detergents.



During the ceremony of the transfer of humanitarian aid, the representatives of various state organizations and services of the Republic of Mozambique expressed great gratitude for the assistance provided, noting that the participation of the Republic of Belarus would help the country to overcome the current crisis.


In addition, during the visit, the head of the Belarusian humanitarian mission met with the Deputy Minister of the Interior of the Republic of Mozambique H.E. Ms.Helena Quida.



During the official meeting, H.E. Ms. H.Quida expressed great gratitude to the Republic of Belarus for the assistance and support in overcoming the consequences of the catastrophe. During the talks, the Deputy Minister has repeatedly stressed that the exchange of experience in the prevention and elimination of disasters is very important for the Republic of Mozambique, in connection with the cyclone “Idai” that has swept through the country, to which, in her opinion, Mozambique was not ready.


The First Deputy Minister expressed his condolences to the citizens of Mozambique and invited the delegation of the Republic of Mozambique to visit the Republic of Belarus to organize interaction and transfer experience in the prevention of emergency situations.
