H.E. Alexander D. Sidoruk visited Cape Town

On 12-15 February, 2020 H.E. Alexander D. Sidoruk, Ambassador of Belarus to South Africa, visited the province of Western Cape and the parliamentary capital of South Africa — Cape Town.

Ambassador Alexander D. Sidoruk took part in a joint meeting of the chambers of Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, during which H.E. Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, made an annual address to the nation (SONA-2020). The Head of State determined the directions of further work of the Government to ensure economic growth and increase the welfare of South African citizens.

During working meetings with Hon.A. Winde, Premier of Western Cape, and Hon.D.Plato, Mayor of Cape Town, there were discussed the issues of interregional cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian spheres, the possibility of exchanging delegations at the level of regional leaders, as well as business circles.

The issues of political cooperation were discussed with H.E.A. Botes, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, and Ms. L.Shongwe, Director of the Department of Central and Eastern Europe, the Scandinavian and Baltic countries of the Department International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa.

In conversations with parliamentarians, there were discussed the issues of resuming dialogue between the legislative bodies of the two countries.

Ambassador Alexander D. Sidoruk took part in the annual meeting of the leadership of the University of Cape Town with the heads of diplomatic missions, accredited in South Africa. He discussed issues of establishing cooperation in the field of education and interuniversity cooperation between Belarus and South Africa. The work was carried out to popularize Belarusian educational institutions among the heads of faculties of the University of Cape Town, as well as the information was spread about the possibility of publications by scientists and teachers in the Belarusian State University journal “International Relations”.
