H.E. Alexander D. Sidoruk visited Maputo

On 4-6 March 2020 H.E. Alexander D. Sidoruk, Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of South Africa and the Republic of Mozambique (concurrently), visited the city of Maputo (Mozambique), where he held a series of meetings with the new leadership of the country.

During the negotiations with H.E. Veronica Macamo Dlhovo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique, the parties discussed the issues of current collaboration and promising areas of bilateral cooperation.

Ambassador Alexander D. Sidoruk personally conveyed to H.E. Veronica Macamo Dlhovo a congratulatory message from H.E. Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Within the framework of the meeting with H.E. Esperança Bias, President of the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique, Ambassador informed about the interest of the Belarusian side in the development of cooperation between the legislative bodies of the two countries both on a bilateral track and within the framework of international parliamentary organizations, and also announced the creation of a Working group in the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on cooperation with countries of the South African region.

H.E. Esperança Bias supported the initiative on working out meetings of deputies on the margins of inter-parliamentary structures and promised to promote the creation of a “friendship group” with Belarus in the Mozambican parliament.

Following the meeting, the Ambassador gave an interview to several Mozambican media about the state of bilateral relations and inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Besides, the head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission held meetings and negotiations with H.E. Ludovina Bernardo, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade. and H.E. Olegario dos Anjos Banze, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

During the meetings, there were discussed the issues of agricultural cooperation and the prospects of creating an assembly line of equipment of the Minsk Tractor Works in Mozambique. The invitation from H.E. Anatoly Khatsko, Minister of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Belarus was handed over to the Head of the agricultural body of Mozambique to visit our country in 2020.

At the meeting with H.E. Carmelita Namashulua, Minister of Education and Human Development of the Republic of Mozambique, there were discussed the prospects of Belarusian-Mozambican cooperation in the field of education and training of Mozambique teachers in Belarusian universities.

An important part of the visit was the meeting with H.E. Pedro Commissario Afonso, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Republic of Mozambique – Co-Chair of the Joint Belarus-Mozambique Commission on Cooperation, in the framework of which the Ambassador informed the new Co-Chair about the current state of bilateral relations and their prospects.
